The rollout of Curve Pay NFC payments on the Huawei Watch GT 4 has begun in Europe. So far, there have been reports from users in Germany, Greece, and Hungary who have spotted the Curve Pay app appearing in the AppGallery section of the Huawei Health app. After nearly two years of waiting, NFC payments have finally become a reality for Huawei Watch GT 4 owners.
In previous official statements, Huawei claimed that NFC payments via the Curve Pay app would only be available on devices running HarmonyOS Next 5.1 or later, such as the Watch 5, GT 6, GT 5, Ultimate 2, and FIT 4. However, this rollout suggests a shift in strategy, as the Huawei Watch GT 4 is currently running HarmonyOS 5.0 (firmware version 5.0.0.77) and is not expected to receive an update to version 5.1.
One user reported a workaround to access Curve Pay on their Huawei Watch GT 4 before the official rollout. By visiting a MediaMarkt store and pairing a Huawei Watch GT 6 model with their phone, they were able to trigger the appearance of the Curve Pay app in the AppGallery section of the Huawei Health app.
Curve Pay effectively replaces Quicko Wallet, whose banking service licence was revoked by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority in January 2026. At present, Curve Pay is available exclusively to users within Europe.
Another app supporting NFC payments has also appeared in AppGallery: Garanti BBVA Mobil. However, it is currently limited to users in Turkey, as registration requires a Turkish national ID number.
That said, the recent emergence of multiple NFC payment apps is an encouraging sign. It suggests that contactless payments on the Huawei Watch GT 4 could soon become widely available worldwide, as there appear to be no hardware limitations preventing NFC functionality on the device – only policy and regional restrictions.
